Whether the flood was global or just in the middle east area is irrelevant. The point is all human beings except Noah and his sons and their wives were saved. As far as physical evidence is concerned, we know that there is evidence that some mountains in Turkey(I think) were fully submerged under water which would support the view of the flood being located only where the human population was. On the other hand we know that the earth is at least 70% water and if the ice caps in the north and south pole were to melt the earth would be fully submerged underwater. So there is some evidence for either view. No matter how it happened I do believe a flood destroyed mankind.

A Question for Blue Grass
by marmot insince i noticed you seem to take particular offense at atheism or anything that contradicts a literal interpretation of the bible, could you explain to me your view of noah's flood?.
.
because that's the fable that made me stop believing in the god of the bible..

Tower Of Babel
by Blue Grass innote:this was a post i made on another thread but i felt it was off topic so i giving it it's own thread.. someone(who i can't remember) on a thread(which i can't remember) said the tower of babel story is proven false because some languages evolved from others and thus that was another strike against the bible as being fiction.
however this person doesn't realize that there are languages on this earth that has absolutely no relation whatsoever such as chinese-english, spanish-arabic, greek-xhosa, etc.
not to mention all of the ancient languages that are now extinct due to invading countries forcing their own language on other countries.

PSacramentos says: "Now, I speak English, French, Portugese, Spanish and a smudge of Japanese and I don't even have a "thing" for languages, but even in those I can see some commonalites."
This isn't revelant to the point I'm trying to make about languages today that show no realation especially since every language you speak belong to the same family. A native speaker of English can become fluent in Spanish, French, or Portugese in only two years because they're all similar. As for your friend I feel you're fabricating a little bit but he's not here to confirm anything you say so it doesn't matter.
OnTheWayOut says: "But it was already pointed out that taking the "Tower of Babel" story literally means taking the tower literally.
How tall was it going to be? Would it really reach the heavens in some way that disturbed God?"Here's a prime example of people critizing verses they don't understand. God wasn't angry because of the hieght of the tower but because of why the tower was being built and what it symbolized to Nimrod. The Book Of Jasher goes into more detail about why Nimrod was building the tower. Even though I don't endorse the Book Of Jasher as being 100% canonical, it does contain a lot of accurate information.

Rather than acknowledge these obvious facts, the indiviual decided to turn off his brain and pretend every language on this earth stems from one language just so they could justify critizing an accurate account in the Bible. This is something that is done very frequently by atheist on this site. They stop using common sense just so they can nip pick at any and everything in the Bible no matter how unfounded the attack is.

To Sad Emo(the name says it all), I discovered this site over two years ago and I only made a complaint once. I know you guys like to twist information and make things up but at least try to stick to the facts. The fact is I visit this site on average about once a month and that's only to download Watchtowers and check for any doctiral changes.

Someone asked why it took me so long to conclude this site is full of low life losers. The reason is I just started to notice these ridiculous attacks on the Bible which are based on nothing but ignorance. Some of the non-sense I've noticed over the past few weeks is from one moron saying the Tower of Babel story is proven false because some languages evolved from others, yet this moron doesn't even realize there are languages on this earth that has absolutely no relation whatsoever such as Chinese-English, Spanish-Arabic, Greek-Xhosa, etc. Not to mention all of the ancient languages that are now extinct due to invading countries forcing their own language on other countries. Rather than acknowledge these obvious facts, the basher decided to turn off his brain and pretend every language on this earth stems from one language just so he can justify critizing an accurate account in the Bible. But you guys are not going to let something like facts and common sense stop you from trying to discredit a book you don't understand and obvious a negeative basis towards.

I have a question for the regulars on this site which are mainly ex- jws and atheist. My first question is just for the atheist. Why do you guys spend so much time discussing and researching a book you believe to be fiction? Wouldn't it make more sense to devote your time to discussing things you believe in rather than a fairy tale? And for the ex- jws (which technically includes atheist) why are you guys coming to a site on a daily/weekly basis to discuss an organization that you are no longer a part of? It seems like a lot of you guys can't move on with the rest of your lives and have nothing better to do than criticize a book you claim to be fiction (but yet can't stop giving it so much attention to) and criticizing a group of people who probably forgot you exists. To be blunt, this site is composed of losers who are bitter and have no way of channeling their anger so they just b !# ch , whine, and complain about Witnesses and the bible. I suggest you all find something more productive to do with your time, because coming online everyday b !& ching about your past experiences and verses in the Bible you don't understand is getting really old, really fast.

Another WTF moment...............
by Vachi 8 He Is inwell a few actually......so i'm sitting in the we'redumb hall today, and the core of the topic is recognizing gods qualities through jesus actions and also how jesus spent eons of time with god learning what his father does.
i gotta question: what purpose does that serve?
is god preparing jesus to do something that he himself is tired of or is no longer able to do?

Dude you are so over thinking that sponge analogy. The brother was simply saying the sponge absorbs the water and keeps it like Jesus absorbed Jehovah's qualities. Sometimes you guys try too hard to find something to complain about and you end up sounding ridiculous.

Relapse: I'm considering returning to the Kingdom Hall.
by Blue Grass ini'm a long time lurking of this site(2 years) and a first time poster.
to provide a little background of myself i was not raised as a witness but started studying when i was 19 and got baptized at age 21. a few months after i was baptized i left due to the constant worship of the faithful and discreet slave and the lack of emphasis on christ.
for reasons i'm not sure about yet i decided to attend the district convention last week.

I want to think everyone for their thoughts so far and also I just want to clarify that I still don't believe most of their teachings such as 1914, anointed class, views on blood, holidays, etc. I would be returning for purely social reasons. Even before I started studying I didn't drink, smoke, have sex, curse, watch R-rated movies, or go to clubs so I am finding it virtually impossible to find people to associate with. It's like I have two choices, be a hermit in my 20s or return to the Witnesses. The watchtower won't be controlling my life like other members because I don't believe they speak for God and I'd do enough to be considered 'safe'. Which won't be much by the way.
